Frequently Asked Questions
Women's addiction treatment — answered
The questions we hear most from women and families across Portland Metro, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. Don't see yours? Call 1-800-923-HOPE — we're here 24/7.
Do you only treat women?
Yes. Awakenings by the Sea is a residential addiction treatment center exclusively for women. Our small 18-bed program, all-female peer environment, and trauma-informed clinical model are designed specifically for women's recovery.
Where are you located and do you accept clients from Portland?
We're located at 1325 North Holladay Drive in Seaside, Oregon — about 90 minutes from Portland on the North Oregon coast. Most of the women we serve come from the Portland Metro area and across the Pacific Northwest. We can arrange transportation from PDX airport and Portland for admissions.
Is Awakenings by the Sea accredited?
Yes. We are Oregon's only women's addiction treatment center with both ASAM accreditation (Levels 3.1, 3.5, and 3.7) and CARF certification. We are also a LegitScript-certified treatment provider, an NAATP member, and licensed by the State of Oregon for residential substance use disorder treatment.
What levels of care do you provide?
We provide medically-monitored residential treatment across ASAM Levels 3.1, 3.5, and 3.7 — including medical detox, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), 24/7 nursing, individual and group therapy, trauma-informed care, DBT, 12-Step facilitation, family programming, and structured aftercare planning.
How long is the program?
Our program is structured in four phases spanning roughly 90 days: Days 0–30, 30–60, 60–90, and Phase 4 aftercare or outpatient treatment. Length of stay is individualized based on your clinical needs and ASAM assessment.
What insurance do you accept?
We work with most major insurance plans including First Choice, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. We also offer cash-pay and financing options. Call 1-800-923-HOPE and our admissions team will run your benefits for free.
How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on your insurance benefits, length of stay, and level of care. Most women pay a small share of cost after insurance. Call us and we'll walk you through your specific out-of-pocket estimate — there's no obligation and the call is free.
What is the admissions process?
It starts with a confidential phone call to 1-800-923-HOPE (4673). Our admissions team completes a brief clinical screening, verifies your insurance benefits, and helps arrange travel to Seaside. Many women admit within 24–48 hours of their first call.
Can I bring my phone?
Phones are limited during the first phase to help you focus fully on treatment, and reintroduced in later phases as clinically appropriate. See our packing list for what to bring.
Do you treat co-occurring mental health conditions?
Yes. Most women who come to Awakenings by the Sea are managing co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or trauma alongside substance use. Our clinicians are trained in dual-diagnosis and trauma-informed care.
